SPATIAL STRUCTURE 2016

Students of the Faculty of Architecture during the fiveday architectural workshop, which was held in the first week of April 2016, manually built a spatial wooden structure for the students and other users of the central atrium of the Facultyof Social Sciences. The architectural workshop in building was held in cooperation with the Norwegian architectural office Rintala Eggertsson under the supervision of the architect Sami Rintala.

The multipurpose spatial structure has a modular design and consists of five separate units, it can also randomly form part of different environments and in that manner creates and conforms various and new spatial experiences. The multipurpose architectural art installation can, if necessary, be moved and transferred to a different environment, like for example the city park area, the area of the educational institutions, the exhibition space, the environment of the vulnerable social groups and the like. Given its geographical location it serves users as a place of relaxation and calming, as a space of random encounters and socializing and as a space dedicated to exhibiting products.

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, the modular design together with the existing seats embraces the existing tree and forms a completed square from the general plan view. With the spatial structure we have created an ambience that facilitates relaxation for the students and other users of the atrium and encourages them to talk and create new ideas.
